Media Search Server

MSS - A Media Search Server for Enterprise and Speech Analytics Applications

NSC's Media Search Server (MSS) enables indexing and searching of multimedia content, based on robust speech analysis that spots pre-defined spoken phrases inside the multimedia’s sound track.

A unique indexing algorithm based on NSC’s keyword spotting capabilities is leveraged. The search module includes smart usage of spoken tags to prioritize search relevancy, and provide improved access to events of interest in the multimedia tracks with a flexible interface. The MSS platform integrates media ingestion, media processing and media streaming into the presentation layer. The platform architecture enables operation of the three layers in one box.

The following diagram illustrates MSS's part in the Media Search value chain:

MSS Architecture – High-Level Overview:

Multimedia file content is acquired by MSS from external sources, processed by speech analysis algorithms, and stored in an indexed table. A web-based search application allows system users to retrieve search results based on recognized spoken phrases and meta-information tags.

The following diagram describes the main MSS Modules:

  • Media Acquisition Module
Acquires media content from files located on a hard-drive or Internet RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. Loads into MSS the meta data available for the media. The module implements full integration and exchange to a diversity of audio/video file formats
  • Media Encoding Module
Transcodes input media files to flash video format for storing on external media storage, separates sound track from video to send it to the Grammar Generation Module
  • Grammar Generation Module
Generates grammars based on mapping the inherent relationship among media items and pre-defined categories which pertain to the enterprise glossary. The mapping algorithm enables creation of a unified grammar per media item for the word spotting search engine
  • Speech Processing Module
Extracts and manages spoken phrases from the sound track
  • Indexing Module
Creates search index for retrieval by search applications
  • Search Module
Provides a web-based media search interface with pointers to the exact locations in the media files based on the search index
